Founded in 2002 by Rudi Schreiner, the former President of Viking River Cruises, Inc, AMA Waterways continues to feature some of the newest, most modern and luxurious river cruise ships on European waterways: the MS Amadagio (2006), the MS Amalegro (2007), the MS Amadante (2008), and the MS Amacello (2008). These spectacular river cruise ships operate exclusively for the English speaking market and offer a long list of amenities, which no other river cruise ships in Europe can match. The ships all feature fitness centers, beauty salons and gift shops, and there are elevators on each ship which operate between 4 different levels.
The luxurious staterooms offer all the amenities of a fine hotel, with white-on-white plush bedding, a sitting area, Infotainment System, hair dryer, safe, terry bathrobes, individual climate control, and ample storage space. The Infotainment System in each stateroom consists of a flat-screen TV monitor with keyboard for internet access, and features English language TV Stations, a large selection of movies, and numerous music programs. The satellite telephone system allows passengers to call home for only 1 Euro per minute. Standard staterooms are a very generous 170 sq ft and there are four 255 sq ft Junior Suites available on each luxury river cruise ship. Overall, 82% of the staterooms feature large french balconies, which offer wonderful view of the passing scenery.
In Russia, AMA Waterways sails the MS Tolstoy, the most luxurious and comfortable river cruise ship ever built for Russian rivers, completely renovated and refurbished to a high standard in 2006. Standard staterooms are 110 sq ft, larger than most other Russian river cruise ships, and have bathrooms with separate shower area, another unique feature. Also offered are 220 sq ft deluxe staterooms and 330 sq ft suites.
In September 2009, AMA Waterways will made its debut in South-East Asia, offering 7 and 14 night Mekong River itineraries aboard the brand-new La Marguerite.
